I am reading DIGITAL COMPOSITING FOR FILM & VIDEO for the third time now. Every time I read it, I find new information. I have read many technical books on compositing previously but this book gives me so much more techniques.
The books is about hands-on digital compositing techniques but not software specific. It makes good reference for node based applications such as Shake or Nuke. There are exercises provided for Photoshop users but they are not applicable for some of the methods described. I love the fact that Steve includes ‘roll you own’ flowgraphs and techniques makes this book a ‘must-have’ for any VFX artist. Fundamentals of digital compositing are covered extensively with many simple examples. I encourage they be used to teach these basics before going onto advanced topics. I highly recommend this book to be used for training either in the subject of Digital Compositing or general Multimedia. Both trainers and students should use this book as a reference.
